An increasingly popular trend has begun to emerge in the field of plastic surgery in the last few years. This trend combines the desire to undergo plastic surgery in an exotic locale that is both easy on the eyes as well as the wallet.
The notion that plastic surgery is cheaper outside of the United States is not a new one. The cost of plastic surgery in the U.S. can be up to twice as much as the same procedures performed in countries such as Brazil.
Travel companies have started to offer plastic-surgery-vacation packages with the enticing draw of a relaxing recovery in a beautiful locale. Dr. Lamblet advises caution though for individuals that might be interested in these kinds of travel “deals”. The travel companies and doctors that negotiate these deals may not be entirely focused on the safety of the prospective patient.
Here are a few things that are not normally permitted after undergoing surgery of any kind:
· Consumption of alcoholic beverages
· Prolonged exposure to the sun (sunbathing)
· Strenuous physical activity (swimming, sports, etc)
Do any of these things sound like normal popular vacation activities? One must remember that a normal vacation is not the true intent of their visit. Dr. Lamblet further elaborates on this thought, ““The patients that come to me come for the procedures and, yes, they will experience our culture and geography, but being conscious that it is secondary and that they are not full tourists.”
Though skilled and experienced surgeons exist in both countries, some may still find the allure of a plastic-surgery-vacation too strong to resist. Then again, some may favor a familiar and comforting recovery at home versus travelling abroad to save a few dollars.
